Operation Baghdad Pups has brought more animals to the United States than are listed here. Due to various security concerns we cannot always immediately post the animals’ profiles following their arrival. As soon as there is no longer a security concern for these animals, usually after the soldier or marine has ended his or her tour of duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, the information will be posted.
- Welcome Home Charlie!
-
- After five months of exhaustive effort and extensive coordination by SPCA International and I Love Dogs, the sponsor of its Operation Baghdad Pups Program, Charlie, the black-and-white puppy and unit-mascot for the unit known as Charlie Company serving in Iraq, took his first steps on American soil on Valentine’s Day 2008. Following a 13-hour flight from the Middle East, Charlie was greeted at Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. by SPCA staff and volunteers as television and newspaper journalists captured the story. It was quite the big day for the “Baghdad Pup,” as all of the major network television news affiliates in the Washington D.C. area were there, as were CNN and The Washington Post.
